What is a video otoscope?
It is an instrument used to look inside the ears that has a very tiny video camera that transmits images to a television screen.
What is it used for?
- Better visualization deep inside the ear to look for infection, tumors, polyps, and other abnormalities within the ear canal
- Allows for a deep flush and irrigation of severely infected ears
- To diagnose ruptured ear drums, ear infections, growths
How does it work?
Patients are anesthetized and intubated so as to prevent damage to delicate structures in the ear. Ears are flushed and suctioned thoroughly while providing clear visualization inside.
